Top petrol AH20 Alphard, with a 3.5-litre V6 and four-wheel drive, sold in Japan from 2008 to 2015 through an automatic gearbox. The 2GR-FE engine gave the large van much stronger acceleration than the 2.4 four-cylinder models. It suited buyers who wanted the biggest petrol engine together with all-wheel traction.

STORY

Toyota launched the Alphard in Japan on 22 May 2002 as a large minivan, and a hybrid joined the range in 2003. The second generation went on sale on 12 May 2008 together with the Vellfire as a sister model, and a hybrid returned in November 2011. The third generation arrived on 26 January 2015 with a double-wishbone rear suspension and a top Executive Lounge grade. The fourth generation went on sale on 21 June 2023 on a newly developed platform, in petrol and hybrid versions, with a plug-in hybrid announced as a later addition.
