2.0 1AZ-FE automatic (Europe)

XM20 · 2001–2005FWD

The Avensis Verso is a seven-seat MPV, sold in Europe from 2001 to 2005 as the export version of the Japanese Ipsum. This one pairs the 2.0-litre 1AZ-FE petrol four-cylinder, producing 150 PS and 192 Nm, with an automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive. The automatic is what separates it from the manual 2.0 petrol, while the D-4D diesel in the same range makes 116 PS.

STORY

The Avensis Verso is the export version of the Toyota Ipsum. The first-generation Ipsum (XM10) began production in May 1995, with export versions following in 1996. The second generation (XM20) arrived in May 2001 and used the MC platform. In Japan it was sold as the Ipsum, while export names included Picnic in Singapore and Hong Kong, SportsVan in Denmark, and Avensis Verso in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. First-generation engines were a 2.0-litre 3S-FE petrol and a 2.2-litre 3C-TE turbo-diesel. The second generation used the 1AZ-FE and 1AZ-FSE 2.0-litre petrol engines, the 2AZ-FE 2.4-litre petrol, and the 1CD-FTV 2.0-litre turbo-diesel. The Avensis Verso was discontinued in Europe in 2005, and the European Toyota Verso followed it. Ipsum production ended in December 2009, and the model left Japan the following month. Australian exports of the Avensis Verso continued until 2010.
