STORY

Toyota released the Caldina on 16 November 1992 as the Japanese-market replacement for the Carina Surf wagon, built at Tsutsumi and at Toyota Auto Body's Fujimatsu plant, with Central Motor added from April 1993. It went out through two channels at once, Toyota Store and Toyopet Store, taking over wagon and van duty from the Carina and Corona lines. The T190 cars used 1.8 and 2.0 petrol fours and a 2.0 diesel, front drive or full-time four-wheel drive. The T210 generation of 5 September 1997 sharpened the car with a 260 PS 3S-GTE turbo in the GT-T. The T240 of 13 September 2002 kept 260 PS for the GT-FOUR, added a double wishbone rear axle and a direct injection 1AZ-FSE, and was sold in Japan only until the line finished in June 2007.
