STORY
The Cami was not a Toyota design. It was a Daihatsu Terios, built by Daihatsu and sold under Toyota badges from 17 May 1999 as the smallest SUV in the Japanese line-up, through Toyopet Store outlets, with Osaka Toyota handling the Osaka area. Toyota read the name as casual plus mini and described a monocoque body with a ladder frame built into it and a full-time four-wheel drive system. The J100 car started on Daihatsu's 1,295 cc HC-EJ rated at 92 PS at 6,500 rpm, and from May 2000 took the 1,297 cc K3-VE of 90 PS plus a turbocharged K3-VET of 140 PS. Toyota stopped the Cami in December 2005 and replaced it on 17 January 2006 with the larger Rush, again a Daihatsu product.
