Toyota introduced the Camry Gracia in Japan in December 1996 as the home-market form of the XV20 Camry, in sedan and wagon bodies. Buyers could choose a 2.2-litre four-cylinder 5S-FE or a 2.5-litre 2MZ-FE V6 with an automatic gearbox, and the four-cylinder cars could also have four-wheel drive. At the August 1999 facelift the sedan dropped the Gracia name and became simply Camry, while the wagon kept it. Production ended in August 2001 and the car was replaced by the next generation.
