STORY
Toyota built the Camry Solara as a North American two-door on Camry mechanicals, and the first coupe came off the line at Cambridge, Ontario on 29 June 1998 for the 1999 model year. The XV20 car shared no outer panels with the Camry sedan and offered a 2.2-litre 5S-FE four of 135 hp or a 3.0-litre 1MZ-FE V6 of 200 hp. A convertible followed on 21 February 2000 and took over the role of the Celica convertible. Cambridge finished its last Solara on 20 December 2002, and the XV30 car restarted at Georgetown, Kentucky in July 2003 with a 3.3-litre 3MZ-FE V6 of 225 hp. Production closed in December 2008, and Toyota's own plant chronicle names the Venza, which started at Georgetown that November, as the successor.
