The CE and LE are the four-cylinder Camry sedans of the US XV20 generation, built from 1996 to 2001. They use a 2.2-litre engine, front-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox. The XV20 brought a rounder body than the car before, and these trims sit below the V6 LE and XLE.

STORY

The Camry began as a name on the Celica Camry, built from December 1979 and sold in Japan from January 1980. The first model to carry the Camry name alone, the V10, was released in Japan on 24 March 1982. Exports started in January 1983, and US sales began in March 1983. The wider XV10 arrived in 1991, and the line has run through the XV20, XV30, XV40 and XV50 to the XV70 of 2017 and the XV80, which entered production in China in October 2023.
