The G is the front-wheel-drive Camry sedan of the XV40 generation for Japan, with a 2.4-litre petrol engine and an automatic gearbox, sold from 2006 to 2011. It is the main two-wheel-drive grade at home, set against the all-wheel-drive G Four.

STORY

The Camry began as a name on the Celica Camry, built from December 1979 and sold in Japan from January 1980. The first model to carry the Camry name alone, the V10, was released in Japan on 24 March 1982. Exports started in January 1983, and US sales began in March 1983. The wider XV10 arrived in 1991, and the line has run through the XV20, XV30, XV40 and XV50 to the XV70 of 2017 and the XV80, which entered production in China in October 2023.
