ST205 (1995-1997)

ST205 Group A · 1995–19974WD

The ST205 was the final and most technically advanced Group A Celica GT-Four, featuring an aluminium hood, four-channel ABS, an improved CT20B turbocharger and Super Strut suspension. Its competition career was cut short when the FIA discovered an ingenious illegal turbo restrictor bypass at the 1995 Rally Catalunya, resulting in the loss of all 1995 points and a one-year ban from the championship. Its only outright WRC victory was the 1995 Tour de Corse before Toyota switched to the Corolla WRC.

STORY

The Celica GT-Four was Toyota's turbocharged all-wheel-drive Group A rally weapon that dominated the early 1990s World Rally Championship. It delivered drivers' titles for Carlos Sainz and Juha Kankkunen and a manufacturers' crown in 1993-1994. A restrictor-cheating device on the ST205 led to Toyota's controversial 1995 ban.
