1800 GT-T 3T-GTEU Liftback (TA63 JP)

A60 · 1982–1985RWD

The 1800 GT-T was the turbocharged Celica of the Japanese A60 range, built from 1982 to 1985. Its 3T-GTEU 1.8-litre four made 160 PS, and the liftback kept rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox. The turbocharger placed it at the top of the Japanese Celica line-up.

STORY

The Celica was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 1970, alongside the Carina, and went on sale in Japan that December. The name comes from the Latin coelica, meaning heavenly. The first generation, coded A20 and A30, offered 1.4 to 2.2 litre engines, including the twin-cam 1.6 litre 2T-G. The all-wheel-drive GT-Four arrived in Japan in October 1986 on the ST165, and the line moved through seven generations to the T230 of 1999. The last Celica was built on 21 April 2006.
