GT-TS 4T-GTEU (TA64 JP)

A60 · 1982–1983RWD

The A60 Celica 1.8 turbo was a Japanese liftback sold in 1982 and 1983, powered by the 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder 4T-GTEU. It drives the rear wheels through a manual gearbox. Toyota introduced the first turbocharged Celica in Japan in 1982, and the A60 stayed rear-wheel drive until the front-drive T160 replaced it in 1985.

STORY

The Celica was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 1970, alongside the Carina, and went on sale in Japan that December. The name comes from the Latin coelica, meaning heavenly. The first generation, coded A20 and A30, offered 1.4 to 2.2 litre engines, including the twin-cam 1.6 litre 2T-G. The all-wheel-drive GT-Four arrived in Japan in October 1986 on the ST165, and the line moved through seven generations to the T230 of 1999. The last Celica was built on 21 April 2006.
