STORY
Toyota unveiled the Corolla Cross in Bangkok on 9 July 2020, a GA-C crossover launched first for south-east Asia with a 103 kW petrol engine or a 90 kW hybrid. Japan followed on 14 September 2021 with its own front-end styling, a Takaoka-built car offered with E-Four on the hybrid and sold through every Toyota dealer after the chain merger of May 2020. North American assembly began at the Mazda Toyota joint venture in Alabama on 30 September 2021, a 2.0-litre model rated at 169 hp, with a 196 hp hybrid added in April 2023. Europe took hybrids only, announced in December 2021. Japan moved from the 1.8 to a 2.0-litre engine in October 2023, Thailand took a facelift on 8 February 2024, and Japan had a further round of improvements on 23 May 2025.
