2.0 LPG (1G-GPE)

S150 · 1995–2001RWD

The S150 range included an LPG version of the 2.0 litre six, the 1G-GPE, with an automatic and rear drive. Liquefied petroleum gas is the usual fuel of Japanese taxis and gives lower running costs. Like all 2.0 litre cars it used a shorter, narrower body than the 2.5 and 3.0 litre Crowns.

STORY

The Toyopet Crown entered the Japanese market in January 1955. In 1964 the Crown Eight arrived with a 2.6-litre V8, and the Century, which went into production in 1967, was built on that V8 lineage. In July 2022 Toyota unveiled a new Crown family in four body styles, Crossover, Sport, Sedan and Estate, with the Crossover going on sale first, on 1 September 2022. The catalog files the Crown Eight, the S-series cars and the Sport under this one name, although they are very different machines.
