Crown S (MS41S) 2.0 M twin SU

S40 · 1962–1967RWD

The Crown S (MS41S) was a limited-run S40 sedan fitted with twin SU-type carburettors on the 2.0 litre M inline-six. It sent power through a manual gearbox to the rear wheels. The M six was added to the S40 range in 1965, so this is a late-cycle car, and the only sporting Crown of its generation.

STORY

The Toyopet Crown entered the Japanese market in January 1955. In 1964 the Crown Eight arrived with a 2.6-litre V8, and the Century, which went into production in 1967, was built on that V8 lineage. In July 2022 Toyota unveiled a new Crown family in four body styles, Crossover, Sport, Sedan and Estate, with the Crossover going on sale first, on 1 September 2022. The catalog files the Crown Eight, the S-series cars and the Sport under this one name, although they are very different machines.
