Crown S 2.0 (M)

S50 · 1967–1971RWD

The Crown S used the 2.0 litre inline-six in a sportier state of tune than the larger 2.3 litre 2M, making more power at higher revs. This S50 sedan has a manual gearbox and rear drive. The 2M version moved the Crown above Japan's compact-car class, letting Toyota hand the cheaper buyers to the new Corona Mark II.

STORY

The Toyopet Crown entered the Japanese market in January 1955. In 1964 the Crown Eight arrived with a 2.6-litre V8, and the Century, which went into production in 1967, was built on that V8 lineage. In July 2022 Toyota unveiled a new Crown family in four body styles, Crossover, Sport, Sedan and Estate, with the Crossover going on sale first, on 1 September 2022. The catalog files the Crown Eight, the S-series cars and the Sport under this one name, although they are very different machines.
