S80 · 1974–1979RWD

The fifth-generation Crown coupe was a two-door hardtop with the 2.6 litre six, an automatic gearbox and rear drive, sold from 1974 to 1979. Hardtop models carried the S90 chassis codes until Japanese cars were renumbered S100 in 1976. A 1978 update added rear disc brakes and a four-speed overdrive automatic to the range.

STORY

The Toyopet Crown entered the Japanese market in January 1955. In 1964 the Crown Eight arrived with a 2.6-litre V8, and the Century, which went into production in 1967, was built on that V8 lineage. In July 2022 Toyota unveiled a new Crown family in four body styles, Crossover, Sport, Sedan and Estate, with the Crossover going on sale first, on 1 September 2022. The catalog files the Crown Eight, the S-series cars and the Sport under this one name, although they are very different machines.
