STORY
The Curren existed for an unusual reason: the sixth-generation Celica of October 1993 included a notchback coupe built for export markets, and rather than leave it abroad Toyota gave it a new nose and sold it at home from 27 January 1994. Where the Celica carried four separate oval headlamps, the Curren used combination lamps and a thin grille, and everything behind that front end was Celica, down to the Tahara assembly line. The 2.0-litre twin cam came in two states of tune, 140 PS in high-mecha form as ST206 and 180 PS as the 3S-GE sports twin cam, with ST207 carrying four-wheel steering; a 1.8-litre 4S-FE of 125 PS arrived as ST208 at the minor change of October 1995. Toyota Vista Store dealers handled it, and the single run ended in 1998 with nothing to replace it.
