STORY
The Duet was not a Toyota design. Daihatsu launched the Storia in February 1998 and built the Toyota version too, which reached Toyota Corolla Store showrooms on 24 September 1998 as the smallest car in the Toyota passenger range; the differences from the Storia came down to the front and rear emblems and a few body colours. The five-door M100A hatchback carried a transverse 1,000 cc three-cylinder DOHC twelve-valve engine of 60 PS net, driving the front wheels or, as the M110A, all four, with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic, and a 1.3-litre four followed as it had on the Storia. One generation was the whole story: Toyota dropped the Duet in June 2004 and put the Passo in its place, that one developed jointly with Daihatsu rather than simply rebadged.
