RK170V Route Van 1.9 (3R-B)

K170 · 1963–1968RWD

This is the RK170V Dyna route van, sold in Japan from 1963 to 1968. It uses the 1.9 litre four-cylinder 3R-B petrol engine, rated at 80 PS and 142 Nm, with rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox. The K170 generation offered a route van alongside the trucks, and this enclosed body is what separates it from the open RK170 pickup. The 3R-B was also the engine of the Toyota Stout.

STORY

Toyota's light truck began as the Route Truck, and the Dyna name appeared only in June 1959, picked in a contest among Toyota and dealership staff. The RK85 that first wore it, released on 22 April 1959, was the first Japanese-built truck whose cab tilted forward in one piece for engine access. The fourth generation of August 1977 went full cab-over and became identical to the Daihatsu Delta, which Toyota then supplied, and the same truck went to Hino as the Ranger 2. Direct-injection LASRE diesels arrived in September 1984, and from the generation of 11 May 1995 the wide-cab three-tonne versions came from Hino as the Ranger. The two-tonne range was redesigned on 10 May 1999 jointly with Hino, making the Dyna and the Hino Dutro twins; the one-tonne range followed in June 2001 and the two-tonne range again in July 2011. Toyota Store sold it, and it is still in production.
