Eagle Mk III (1992 championship spec)

1992 IMSA GTP season (54mm restrictor) · 1992–1992RWD

In its first full season the Eagle Mk III became untouchable, winning 9 races and delivering the IMSA GTP Drivers' title to Juan Manuel Fangio II and the Manufacturers' title to Toyota. Its ground-effect chassis and torque-rich Toyota turbo four overpowered the V8/V10/V12 opposition; the dominance contributed to Nissan and Jaguar winding down their factory efforts.

STORY

The Eagle Mk III was a Toyota-powered IMSA GTP prototype run by Dan Gurney's All American Racers in the early 1990s. Powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder Toyota engine, it utterly dominated the series, winning 21 of 27 races in 1992-1993 and back-to-back championships. It is remembered as one of the most successful sports-prototypes of its era.
