Eagle Mk III (1993 championship spec)

1993 IMSA GTP season (52mm restrictor) · 1993–1993RWD

The Eagle Mk III repeated as champion in 1993, winning 10 races including the Sebring 12 Hours (Fangio II / Andy Wallace) and again taking the Drivers' title for Fangio II and the Manufacturers' crown for Toyota. Across 1991-1993 it won 21 of 27 races entered, and its sheer dominance is widely credited with hastening the end of the IMSA GTP formula after the season. This spec ran a tighter 52mm air restrictor and a higher rules-mandated minimum weight.

STORY

The Eagle Mk III was a Toyota-powered IMSA GTP prototype run by Dan Gurney's All American Racers in the early 1990s. Powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder Toyota engine, it utterly dominated the series, winning 21 of 27 races in 1992-1993 and back-to-back championships. It is remembered as one of the most successful sports-prototypes of its era.
