The Story

Why the Etios matters

The Etios was Toyota's small car for emerging markets, launched in India in December 2010 as a sedan, followed by the Etios Liva hatchback in 2011. India offered 1.2 and 1.5 litre petrol engines and a 1.4 litre D-4D diesel, all with front-wheel drive and manual gearboxes. Production in Brazil began in 2012, with 1.3 and 1.5 litre flex-fuel engines for the local market and exports, and Indonesia built the model between 2013 and 2017. The car was designed around low running costs and simple ownership rather than refinement. Indian production ended in 2020, and Brazilian production continued after that mainly for export, ending in 2023.
