The six-speed automatic GR86 is the second gearbox choice for Australia, sold since 2022 as a rear-wheel-drive coupe. It has the same 2.4-litre four-cylinder boxer petrol engine as the manual, listed at 237 hp and 250 Nm. The other gearbox offered is a six-speed manual.

STORY

Toyota gave the second-generation GR 86 its world debut on 5 April 2021, an online event shared with Subaru, whose BRZ uses the same vehicle base. The Japanese launch followed on 28 October 2021. The flat-four grew from the 2.0 litres of the 2012 original to 2.4 litres, giving 235 PS (173 kW) at 7,000 rpm and 250 N·m at 3,700 rpm, with a six-speed manual or automatic. Roof panels and fenders are aluminium to lower the centre of gravity. Japanese prices ran from 2,799,000 yen for the manual-only RC to 3,512,000 yen for the RZ with the automatic.
