STORY

The Harrier went on sale in Japan on 25 December 1997 on a Camry-based front-drive platform. Overseas, its first two generations were sold as the Lexus RX. When the third-generation RX reached Japanese Lexus stores in 2009, the second-generation Harrier with the 2.4-litre engine and the hybrid stayed on sale. The third generation, launched in December 2013, was a separate model line on the platform it shared with the RAV4, and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol joined it at 170 kW. The fourth generation (XU80) arrived on 17 June 2020 on the GA-K platform. A plug-in hybrid with 225 kW combined output was announced in September 2022 and went on sale from 31 October. North America received the fourth generation as the Venza.
