The 2.8 litre 1GD-FTV turbodiesel arrived with the eighth-generation Hilux in 2015 in its initial tune. This four-wheel-drive version has a manual gearbox and ran until 2020. The 2020 facelift later raised the output of the 1GD-FTV, so this is the earlier, lower-output tune. The engine is a four-cylinder diesel in a pickup body.

STORY

The Hilux went on sale in Japan on 21 March 1968 as the RN10. Later generations were introduced in September 1978, September 1988 and September 1997, and the seventh, the Hilux Vigo, began production and launch in Thailand in August 2004. The eighth generation had its world premiere in Thailand in May 2015. Toyota unveiled the ninth generation in November 2025, a little over ten years later, with a dual-motor battery-electric version and a mild-hybrid 2.8-litre diesel among its powertrains.
