The 3.0 litre 1KD-FTV turbodiesel remained available in the eighth-generation Hilux, in manual form. This four-wheel-drive version was sold internationally from 2015 to 2024. The 1KD predates the 2.4 litre 2GD-FTV and 2.8 litre 1GD-FTV engines that formed the core of the line. The engine is a four-cylinder diesel in a pickup body.

STORY

The Hilux went on sale in Japan on 21 March 1968 as the RN10. Later generations were introduced in September 1978, September 1988 and September 1997, and the seventh, the Hilux Vigo, began production and launch in Thailand in August 2004. The eighth generation had its world premiere in Thailand in May 2015. Toyota unveiled the ninth generation in November 2025, a little over ten years later, with a dual-motor battery-electric version and a mild-hybrid 2.8-litre diesel among its powertrains.
