N10 · 1971–1972RWD

The 1.6 litre 12R four-cylinder petrol engine arrived in the N10 Hilux in 1971, replacing the 1.5 litre 2R in the Japanese range. With a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, this pickup stayed on sale only until 1972, when the second-generation N20 took over. The 12R was a small, simple engine suited to light work trucks.

STORY

The Hilux went on sale in Japan on 21 March 1968 as the RN10. Later generations were introduced in September 1978, September 1988 and September 1997, and the seventh, the Hilux Vigo, began production and launch in Thailand in August 2004. The eighth generation had its world premiere in Thailand in May 2015. Toyota unveiled the ninth generation in November 2025, a little over ten years later, with a dual-motor battery-electric version and a mild-hybrid 2.8-litre diesel among its powertrains.
