N10 1.9 8R (North America)

Toyota sold this N10 Hilux in the United States from 1970 to 1972, with the 1.9 litre 8R four-cylinder petrol engine. It had rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox. The 8R followed the 3R engine that the US trucks used when they arrived in 1969, so this is the second US engine of the first-generation pickup.

STORY

The Hilux went on sale in Japan on 21 March 1968 as the RN10. Later generations were introduced in September 1978, September 1988 and September 1997, and the seventh, the Hilux Vigo, began production and launch in Thailand in August 2004. The eighth generation had its world premiere in Thailand in May 2015. Toyota unveiled the ninth generation in November 2025, a little over ten years later, with a dual-motor battery-electric version and a mild-hybrid 2.8-litre diesel among its powertrains.
