N140 2.4 2L Diesel

N140 · 1997–2006RWD

Without a turbocharger, the 2.4 litre 2L diesel of the N140 Hilux was the simplest oil-burner in the range. International customers bought it from 1997 to 2006 with rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox. It sat below the 2L-T turbodiesel and the 3.0 litre 5L engine, which suited drivers who valued simplicity above all.

STORY

The Hilux went on sale in Japan on 21 March 1968 as the RN10. Later generations were introduced in September 1978, September 1988 and September 1997, and the seventh, the Hilux Vigo, began production and launch in Thailand in August 2004. The eighth generation had its world premiere in Thailand in May 2015. Toyota unveiled the ninth generation in November 2025, a little over ten years later, with a dual-motor battery-electric version and a mild-hybrid 2.8-litre diesel among its powertrains.
