N140 3.0 5L-E Diesel

N140 · 1998–2006RWD

Introduced in 1998, the 3.0 litre 5L diesel became a long-running engine for the N140 Hilux, and this row carries the fuel-injected 5L-E, which appeared in 2000. Sold internationally until 2006, it has rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox. It displaced more than the 2.4 litre 2L diesels and was a naturally aspirated engine.

STORY

The Hilux went on sale in Japan on 21 March 1968 as the RN10. Later generations were introduced in September 1978, September 1988 and September 1997, and the seventh, the Hilux Vigo, began production and launch in Thailand in August 2004. The eighth generation had its world premiere in Thailand in May 2015. Toyota unveiled the ninth generation in November 2025, a little over ten years later, with a dual-motor battery-electric version and a mild-hybrid 2.8-litre diesel among its powertrains.
