N20 2.0 18R (North America)

N20 · 1973–1974RWD

The 2.0 litre 18R four-cylinder petrol engine reached the North American Hilux with the N20 generation, and this version covers the 1973 and 1974 model years. It drove the rear wheels and used a manual gearbox. It was larger than the 1.9 litre 8R in the N10 pickup it succeeded.

STORY

The Hilux went on sale in Japan on 21 March 1968 as the RN10. Later generations were introduced in September 1978, September 1988 and September 1997, and the seventh, the Hilux Vigo, began production and launch in Thailand in August 2004. The eighth generation had its world premiere in Thailand in May 2015. Toyota unveiled the ninth generation in November 2025, a little over ten years later, with a dual-motor battery-electric version and a mild-hybrid 2.8-litre diesel among its powertrains.
