N50 2.2 L Diesel

N50 · 1983–1985RWD

A 2.2 litre L-series four-cylinder diesel powered this Japanese N50 Hilux, which was sold from 1983 to 1985 with rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox. It carried over from the earlier N30 with a small output gain. Toyota replaced it in 1985 with the 2.4 litre 2L, so this is the short-lived first diesel of the generation.

STORY

The Hilux went on sale in Japan on 21 March 1968 as the RN10. Later generations were introduced in September 1978, September 1988 and September 1997, and the seventh, the Hilux Vigo, began production and launch in Thailand in August 2004. The eighth generation had its world premiere in Thailand in May 2015. Toyota unveiled the ninth generation in November 2025, a little over ten years later, with a dual-motor battery-electric version and a mild-hybrid 2.8-litre diesel among its powertrains.
