N50 · 1983–1988RWD

For export markets, the N50 Hilux with the 2.4 litre 2L diesel offered a simpler alternative to the petrol trucks, from 1983 to 1988. The four-cylinder engine was paired with rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox. It arrived in Japan in August 1985 as the LN41, but this row covers the international version.

STORY

The Hilux went on sale in Japan on 21 March 1968 as the RN10. Later generations were introduced in September 1978, September 1988 and September 1997, and the seventh, the Hilux Vigo, began production and launch in Thailand in August 2004. The eighth generation had its world premiere in Thailand in May 2015. Toyota unveiled the ninth generation in November 2025, a little over ten years later, with a dual-motor battery-electric version and a mild-hybrid 2.8-litre diesel among its powertrains.
