N50 2.8 3L Diesel (South Africa)

N50 · 1995–1998RWD

South Africa kept building the older Hilux body into the late 1990s, and this version used the 2.8 litre 3L four-cylinder diesel from 1995 to 1998. It was paired with rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox. It was the largest diesel in this body and replaced the 2.4 litre 2L offered earlier.

STORY

The Hilux went on sale in Japan on 21 March 1968 as the RN10. Later generations were introduced in September 1978, September 1988 and September 1997, and the seventh, the Hilux Vigo, began production and launch in Thailand in August 2004. The eighth generation had its world premiere in Thailand in May 2015. Toyota unveiled the ninth generation in November 2025, a little over ten years later, with a dual-motor battery-electric version and a mild-hybrid 2.8-litre diesel among its powertrains.
