The Story

Why the JPN Taxi matters

Toyota showed the JPN Taxi Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2013, and production began in October 2017. It replaced the Comfort and Crown Sedan taxis. The car is a five-door MPV with front-wheel drive on the Toyota B platform. It has three conventional doors and an electrically operated sliding door on the rear left. The powertrain is a 1.5-litre 1NZ-FXP engine, which can run on LPG, with an electric motor in a full hybrid system. Rear seats fold and a ramp deploys for wheelchair users. It carries six airbags, Toyota Safety Sense and a five-star JNCAP rating. The top Takumi trim adds a ceiling air circulator and rear-seat heating. It was built at the Higashi-Fuji plant in Susono from 2017 to 2020, and production moved to the Miyagi plant in December 2020. It is also sold in Hong Kong as the Comfort Hybrid and in Thailand as the Toyota Thai Taxi.
