STORY
Toyota began assembling the Land Cruiser FJ25 in Brazil in 1958, the first Toyota built outside Japan. It was renamed Bandeirante in 1962, after Brazilian frontier explorers, and the Toyota petrol engine gave way to a 3.4-liter Mercedes-Benz OM324 four-cylinder diesel that suited farm use. In 1968 the J40-based OJ series took over, with jeep, wagon and pickup bodies, and it stayed in production for more than three decades. In 1994 Toyota's 3.7-liter 14B diesel replaced the Mercedes engine. Production ended in November 2001, after about 104,000 vehicles, ahead of new Brazilian emissions rules.
