FJ60 4.2 2F

J60 · 1980–19874WD

FJ60 Land Cruiser, the 60 series SUV sold in the US from 1980 to 1987. It uses the 4.2 litre 2F six-cylinder petrol engine with four-wheel drive and a four-speed manual gearbox, which the page says was a US-only fitment. The 60 series launched with air conditioning and an upgraded interior aimed at the SUV market, and the 2F stayed in North America until the fuel-injected 3F-E replaced it elsewhere.

STORY

The Land Cruiser began as a Jeep-type utility vehicle: Toyota finished its Jeep-type prototype in January 1951, and the production truck was sold as the Toyota Jeep BJ. In 1954 the name changed to Land Cruiser, partly because Willys held the Jeep trademark. The 70 series, introduced in 1984 as the successor to the long-serving 40 series, came in heavy-duty and light-duty forms. The catalog groups many generations under this one name, from the BJ and 20 series to the J250 and J300, and they cover different body styles and markets.
