2000 GSL Sedan (M six)

X20 · 1972–1976RWD

The 2000 GSL paired the X20 Mark II sedan with the M, a 2.0-liter inline-six that was new to the Mark II line. Sold in Japan from 1972 to 1976 with rear-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox, it carried the luxury-minded GSL grade. The smooth six gave it a different character from the four-cylinder 1700 and 1800 cars.

STORY

Toyota introduced the Corona Mark II in September 1968 as a model between the Corona and the Crown. The X90 generation of 1992 brought the Tourer V, whose twin-turbo 2.5-litre 1JZ-GTE became the car's best-known engine, and the next X100 followed in 1996. The ninth and last generation, the X110, appeared in 2000. The sedan went out of production in 2004, when the Mark X replaced it in Japan, while a wagon version, the Mark II Blit, was built until 2007.
