2000 Hardtop (18R-U)

X20 · 1972–1976RWD

The 2000 Hardtop was the two-door coupe body of the X20 Mark II in Japan, 1972 to 1976. It used the 2.0-liter 18R-U four-cylinder with rear-wheel drive and a manual gearbox. The same body also carried the sportier GSS with the twin-cam 18R-G, so this car was the plainer-engined hardtop.

STORY

Toyota introduced the Corona Mark II in September 1968 as a model between the Corona and the Crown. The X90 generation of 1992 brought the Tourer V, whose twin-turbo 2.5-litre 1JZ-GTE became the car's best-known engine, and the next X100 followed in 1996. The ninth and last generation, the X110, appeared in 2000. The sedan went out of production in 2004, when the Mark X replaced it in Japan, while a wagon version, the Mark II Blit, was built until 2007.
