Grande 2000 Twin Cam 24 (1G-GE)

X70 · 1984–1988RWD

The Grande 2000 Twin Cam 24 was a four-door hardtop in the X70 Mark II range, sold in Japan from 1984 to 1988. Its 1G-GE inline-six had twin cams and 24 valves, with rear-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox. This was the generation in which Toyota dropped the Corona prefix and sold the car simply as the Mark II.

STORY

Toyota introduced the Corona Mark II in September 1968 as a model between the Corona and the Crown. The X90 generation of 1992 brought the Tourer V, whose twin-turbo 2.5-litre 1JZ-GTE became the car's best-known engine, and the next X100 followed in 1996. The ninth and last generation, the X110, appeared in 2000. The sedan went out of production in 2004, when the Mark X replaced it in Japan, while a wagon version, the Mark II Blit, was built until 2007.
