2.0 Grande G Supercharged (1G-GZE)

X80 · 1988–1992RWD

The 2.0 Grande G Supercharged put a belt-driven supercharger on the 1G-GZE, a 2.0-liter inline-six, in the X80 Mark II hardtop sold in Japan from 1988 to 1992. An electromagnetic clutch engaged the blower only when needed. It had rear-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox, and Toyota replaced the engine with the 1JZ family in 1990.

STORY

Toyota introduced the Corona Mark II in September 1968 as a model between the Corona and the Crown. The X90 generation of 1992 brought the Tourer V, whose twin-turbo 2.5-litre 1JZ-GTE became the car's best-known engine, and the next X100 followed in 1996. The ninth and last generation, the X110, appeared in 2000. The sedan went out of production in 2004, when the Mark X replaced it in Japan, while a wagon version, the Mark II Blit, was built until 2007.
