STORY
Toyota released the Master Ace Surf on 8 November 1982, a passenger-registered one-box wagon with no commercial van in the range, built by Toyota Auto Body and sold only through Toyota Store, while the mechanically identical Town Ace went to Corolla Store and Daihatsu sold a third twin as the Delta Wide Wagon. The YR20G sat the driver above the front axle and drove the rear wheels through a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic, with a 1,812 cc 2Y-U carburettor four that Toyota's table rates at 95 PS. Front suspension used double wishbones on a torsion bar, and the rear four-link coil arrangement with a lateral rod was a first for a Japanese cab-over wagon. Four rectangular headlamps and large polyurethane bumpers told it apart from the Town Ace. Four-wheel drive and a turbodiesel arrived in August 1985, TEMS damping in August 1988, and production stopped in January 1992.
