1600 G 4A-GELU manual (AW11 JP)

W10 (AW11) · 1984–1987RWD

With a manual gearbox, the 1600 G is the version of the Japanese AW11 that rewards a driver. The 1.6-litre 4A-GELU twin-cam four makes 130 PS and 149 Nm and drives the rear wheels. It was sold from 1984 to 1987, and shares its engine with the automatic 1600 G, so the choice of gearbox is the only difference.

STORY

Toyota began building the mid-engined, rear-drive MR2 in June 1984. The AW11 used a transverse 1.6 litre 4A-GE, rated at 130 PS gross in Japan against 112 hp (SAE net) in the US, and a supercharged 4A-GZE was added in Japan in 1986. The SW20 of 1989 took a 2.0 litre 3S-GE or turbocharged 3S-GTE, which made 245 PS in Japan from late 1993. The W30, sold in Japan as the MR-S, was built from October 1999 and ended in July 2007.
