G-Limited 3S-GE automatic (SW20 JP)

W20 (SW20) · 1989–1994RWD

The G-Limited is the comfort-minded SW20 coupe in Japan, sold from 1989 to 1994 with the naturally aspirated 2.0-litre 3S-GE four. It makes 165 PS and 191 Nm and drives the rear wheels through an automatic gearbox. Added equipment separates it from the plain G, and the automatic suits relaxed driving over hard cornering.

STORY

Toyota began building the mid-engined, rear-drive MR2 in June 1984. The AW11 used a transverse 1.6 litre 4A-GE, rated at 130 PS gross in Japan against 112 hp (SAE net) in the US, and a supercharged 4A-GZE was added in Japan in 1986. The SW20 of 1989 took a 2.0 litre 3S-GE or turbocharged 3S-GTE, which made 245 PS in Japan from late 1993. The W30, sold in Japan as the MR-S, was built from October 1999 and ended in July 2007.
