STORY
The Pixis Joy was a rebadged Daihatsu Cast, and Toyota said so itself: a December 2023 statement on Daihatsu's certification irregularities lists the pair as Daihatsu Cast and Toyota Pixis Joy. Daihatsu designed, developed and built the car, launching the Cast on 9 September 2015 with the Activa and Style versions, developed alongside a third, the Sport, which followed at the end of October; Toyota took the same three on 31 August 2016 and called them Pixis Joy C, Joy F and Joy S. Daihatsu's e:S technology gave 30.0 km/L on the JC08 cycle for two-wheel-drive cars without the turbo, Smart Assist II was fitted to most grades, and the crossover-flavoured Joy C sat on 165/60R15 tyres with 180 mm of ground clearance, 30 mm more than the other two. Sales ran through 210 dealer companies, and the LA250A and LA260A cars left the price list in June 2023.
