The Prius wagon went on sale in Japan as the Prius alpha in May 2011, followed by the Prius v in the United States and Canada in October 2011 and the Prius+ in Europe in 2012. It shares the 1.8-litre hybrid system of the regular Prius, rated 98 hp from the engine and 134 hp combined. The five-seat cars use a nickel-metal hydride battery, while the seven-seat versions use a lithium-ion pack that leaves room for a third row. A GR Sport grade was added in Japan in late 2017. Japanese production ended in 2021. American sales ended after the 2017 model year, and Europe withdrew the Prius+ without a direct replacement.
