NCP58 1.5 Wagon

P50 · 2002–2013FWD

The NCP51 pairs the P50 Probox with the 1.5 litre 1NZ-FE petrol engine instead of the 1.3 litre 2NZ-FE of the NCP50. It drives the front wheels through an automatic gearbox and is catalogued as the wagon body, sold in Japan between 2002 and 2013. The extra capacity helps with passengers and luggage.

STORY

Toyota put the Probox and its longer sister Succeed on sale on 2 July 2002 as commercial vans for Japan, the Probox taking over from the Corolla and Sprinter vans through Toyota Corolla Store and Netz dealers while the Succeed went to Toyota and Toyopet Store. The NCP50 body was tall and square, with a 4-link rear end on barrel-shaped springs to keep the load floor flat, 2.40 cubic metres of van load space and a 400 kg payload. Engines were a 1.3 and a 1.5 petrol four plus a 1.4 common-rail diesel dropped in September 2007, with four-wheel drive offered on the 1.5 petrol, and a CNG 1.5 from April 2003; a passenger wagon body ran alongside the van until 2013. Daihatsu's Kyoto plant built the car. The facelift announced on 6 August 2014 took the range to NSP160 and NCP160 codes on 1 September, and a 1NZ-FXE hybrid was announced on 19 November 2018 and sold from that 3 December.
