STORY

The Raize is Toyota's twin of the Daihatsu Rocky, a sub-4-metre crossover (3,995 mm) built on Daihatsu's DNGA platform. Daihatsu showed it at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2019 as an unnamed compact SUV, and the twins went on sale in Japan the same day, 5 November 2019, the Raize from 1,679,000 yen. The launch engine was a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder with 98 PS and 140 Nm, paired with a CVT. Demand was strong: 7,484 cars in November 2019, fourth among Japanese registered cars that month. Indonesia was the first market abroad for the Raize, with sales from 30 April 2021. A 1.2-litre series hybrid, the e-Smart Hybrid, joined the Japanese range on 1 November 2021.
