The XA50 2.5 AWD is the main petrol RAV4 of the fifth generation in the United States, sold from 2018 to 2025. Its 2.5 litre Dynamic Force engine drives all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic. It is the gasoline counterpart to the hybrid in a lineup that sold in huge numbers.

STORY

The RAV4 grew out of the RAV-FOUR concept shown at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show and was revealed at Geneva in March 1994, with Japanese sales starting in May 1994. It was a compact all-wheel-drive SUV on a monocoque body, built with Corolla platform parts, and a battery-electric RAV4 EV followed in 1997. The first full hybrid arrived in 2016 on the fourth generation, which was shown in Los Angeles in November 2012. The fifth generation reached Europe in 2019 on Toyota's New Global Architecture platform, and cumulative sales passed 10 million by the end of February 2020.
