STORY

The Roomy is not a Toyota design. Daihatsu developed the car and builds it at its Ikeda head office plant, selling it at home as the Thor from 9 November 2016 and supplying it to Toyota. Toyota's release of that same date covered two sister cars at once: the Roomy through Toyota Store and Toyota Corolla Store, the Tank through Toyopet Store and Netz, each given its own face, thick headlamps over a surface-led grille for the Roomy and narrow lamps over a large lower grille for the Tank, four front designs once the Custom grades were counted. Both used the 1.0-litre three-cylinder 1KR-FE or a newly developed 1KR-VET turbo making 140 Nm, turned inside 4.6 m on 14-inch wheels, and were given monthly targets of 3,750 cars each. The facelift of 15 September 2020 was announced for the Roomy alone, by then sold at every Toyota dealer, and the M900 line was still being updated in August 2026.
